Determined to create the life we wanted for our children, we took a risk that led us here to the community of our dreams.
Through adapting and finding ways to keep moving forward, we learned a valuable lesson together.
I slowed the car to a crawl as Lexi stuck her hand out of the window. She stabilized her arm as I rolled down the street, filming a new segment for our YouTube channel. As our daughter slept soundly in the back, Lexi and I shared a laugh when she pulled her hand back inside. “This all better be worth it,” she said.
We moved to Wilmington in 2016 to raise our family. Coming from California with skyrocketing expenses and crowded cities, we could not afford the quality of life that we wanted to provide for our children. When we found out we were expecting our daughter, it sped up our plan to move, and we found ourselves here, starting a new business as new parents and not knowing a soul.
While our family on the other side of the country offered a lot of support and encouragement, day to day it was just the two of us. Lexi stayed home with Charlie, our daughter, for a few years before joining me in real estate.
Working with your spouse isn’t always easy, but we make a great team together. We found our strengths and stayed in our own lanes to build the business we have today, a big part of which came from our YouTube channel.
At first, it seemed strange to others – filming ourselves and the city. But when we moved here, there was a lot of information we could not find in advance. For instance, what kind of bugs are there in Wilmington? We made videos to inform others, including everything we would have wanted to know.
It all grew from there, and while building our business through fix-and-flips, investing and more, we lived all over town, including some less privileged neighborhoods. For the first time in our lives, we witnessed real poverty, and Lexi jumped right into the community. I joke that she is The Casserole Lady – she got us involved with food drives, events and neighbors.
She grew up in a tight-knit community in Utah that pulled together whenever someone was in need. When her parents divorced, neighbors regularly helped out her mother by shoveling the driveway or mowing the lawn – it was just what you did for others. Lexi never forgot the difference those small acts made and the impact that kindness had on her family.
In our own ways, we have immersed ourselves in that same supportive community here in Wilmington. We still do many events, including a yearly food drive in celebration of our daughter’s birthday (in lieu of gifts). We moved here for the quality of life and community we could bring our children up in, and part of that is what we can contribute as well. Both of us know we would not be where we are today were it not for the support we received from
family and our clients. People are everything to us, and we value those in our lives more than we can ever express. We love our home, this beautiful place where we are raising our children (our son Banner was born in 2021).
Through our journey we realized that obstacles are just opportunities to move forward in new ways. We laugh about the phone filming now. Of course, we still create videos, but we have better equipment and streamlined processes.
I have been a licensed REALTOR® since 2009, and Lexi joined me in 2018. Whenever we are not working, we enjoy traveling, going out to eat and spending time with our children. Our favorite part of being REALTORS® is helping our clients accomplish their dreams.
Wherever you are on your real estate journey, we will guide you to where you want to be. We will explain the entire process and what to expect. We have aligned ourselves with a solid team of reliable vendors, so no matter what part of the process we are in, everyone continues to pull things in the right direction.
We want to help find the best fit for you, which is why we will tell you the good, the bad and the ugly. Being upfront about your options and potential avenues for success, we will ensure that you have everything you need to make the best decision possible. Through maintaining transparency, we enjoy sharing what sort of lifestyle to expect here. Having relocated ourselves, we know this process inside and out and how to help guide others through it as well. Once the transaction is over, we will continue to support your success as your lifelong REALTORS®.
